With the fourth phase of electrification work taking place this week, which when complete will see new trains serving Bedwyn and Pewsey, with more seats, improved reliability, and crucially the continuation of direct services between Bedwyn and London Paddington which are so important for everyone living and working locally, I was pleased to receive the attached letter from Mark Langman, Western Route Director, Network Rail. As you will read the upgrade work is progressing well and this week Network Rail will be testing and commissioning the electrical equipment and removing the redundant footbridge at Newbury. The plans to extend the Bedwyn siding to enable the new, longer, five carriage trains to turnaround are progressing and Network Rail expects to receive formal confirmation from Wiltshire Council in the next few weeks.
Just a reminder that there are no trains at Bedwyn and Pewsey until Monday 11 June, full details about the alternative arrangements can be found at www.gwr.com/travel-updates/planned-engineering/newbury2018 and all replacement bus and connecting train times can be found in the GWR online journey planner.
