Last week Claire Perry visited the site of works to the Bedwyn ‘Turnaround’ siding to see the progress which has been made to extend the siding and relocate the footpath crossing. The siding extension is required for the new five car, bi-mode Inter City Express Trains which will serve Bedwyn from January and will ensure that vital through services to and from London, are able to continue when Electrification is complete to Newbury.
Claire said:
“The siding extension is the final step on the journey to ensure that rail passengers at Bedwyn are able to benefit from the Electrification programme. The new trains which are already running in ‘test mode’ and will be fully in service from January 2019, will ensure that our through services to London are secured and I am absolutely delighted with this achievement, after so many years of campaigning, together with the Bedwyn Trains Passenger Group.”
Steve Smith, Bedwyn Trains Passenger Group, said:
“We welcome the extension of the siding, which will allow the new IET trains to service Bedwyn and maintain our direct trains to Reading and Paddington. This is very good news indeed.”
